Ultrasonic Testing performed by North Country NDT utilizes ultrasonic thickness gauging. This is a widely used Non-destructive test technique for measuring the thickness of a material from just one side, and for flaw detection. It is fast, reliable, and versatile.
So what can be measured using this test? Virtually any common engineering material can be measured using the Ultrasonic Test from North Country NDT. Ultrasonic thickness gages can be set up for metals, plastics, composites, fiberglass, ceramics, and glass. In-process measurement of extruded plastics and rolled metal can also be determined; individual layers or coatings in multilayer fabrications can be measured. Ultrasonic gaging is always completely nondestructive, with no cutting or sectioning required.
Materials that are generally not suited for conventional ultrasonic testing because of their poor transmission of high frequency sound waves include wood, paper, concrete, and foam products. We frequently use Ultrasonic Testing to monitor metal thickness or weld quality in industrial settings.
Our technicians equipped with portable Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) probes reach steel plating in sides, tanks, decks and the superstructure. They can read its thickness by touching the steel with the measurement head. These testing methods are used to inspect metal to determine quality and safety without destroying or compromising its integrity.
There are several advantages to using Ultrasonic Testing:
